REVIEW: Tatais Hostel San Pedro de Atacama

San Pedro has to be the most overpriced place in South America, so Tatais is a good budget option with a clean kitchen and a nice courtyard to chill in. They have dorms and private rooms and also organise tours to see the area’s highlights.

Hospitality: 7/10 At first we didn’t know how to take the owner here but after a few minutes we realised she just has a bit of a dark sense of humour. She was really helpful and accomodating and welcomed us to light a fire in the fire pit if we felt cold in the courtyard later that night.

Room: 7/10 Being back in a dorm sucked so I’m not sure if I’m being too harsh here, but it was cold and a bit dingy. It was cleaned every day but we still had an obnoxious smelly guy in our room who had serious flatulence. It put us off sharing a room again!

Location: 7/10 It’s only a 10 minute walk from the main plaza but the area isn’t very well lit at night.

Value: 7/10 We ended up paying 1700 pesos each ($17aud) so it was one of the more expensive places we’ve stayed but it is the cheapest place we could find in San Pedro. The vibe was really nice and the courtyard was sunny and served as a great chill out place, especially with the fire pit at night. The kitchen is clean and well equipped and the internet worked well.

Overall: 8/10 I’d recommend this place as a cheap stop over for a couple of nights if you’re on a serious budget.
