REVIEW: Hostal Galapagos San Cristobal

San Cristobal has the cheapest accomodation options we found in the three islands we visited. Instead of staying in a dive for less money we decided to stick to our budget and live it up a little. Hostal Galapagos is run by a very friendly english speaking Ecuadorian named Bernard and is one of my all time favourite places we have stayed so far on our whole South America trip!

Hospitality: 10/10 Bernard is very welcoming but also understands his guests need their own space. He was always around when we needed him, or if not his super friendly volunteer Ben was there to tend to our needs.

Room: 10/10 The rooms here are individual cabins and are super clean. White high quality sheets, towels, hand towel, facecloth AND bath mat (unheard of in budget accomodation in South America). We had a fridge, a tv and air conditioning and at night the only noise was from the ocean across the road. The room was cleaned every day and it smelled delightful.

Location: 10/10 A two minute walk from the main pier but on the opposite side to the bulk of the action this is the perfect quiet but central location. With the outdoor dining and hammock space it’s also perfectly located to watch the famous San Cristobal sunset.

Value: 10/10 We paid $40usd per night for 2 people. Keep in mind we walked in off the street when the rooms were empty so this was during the low season. We also stayed for 3 nights so got a further discount. We had access to the kitchen, which because it is also the kitchen Bernard uses for himself it is perfectly equipped, so this meant we could save money on eating out and still enjoy our meals next to the ocean in the alfresco dining area. ALSO every morning Bernard and Ben whipped up an amazing breakfast. One morning it was banana choc pancakes, then Spanish omelette, and on the last morning we had the traditional plantain bolon with eggs. So good!

Overall: 10/10 Bernard really has all the little details down pat. We were super happy here and I would highly recommend this place as a great base to explore the islands. I know the price doubles during high season but even then it would be worth it.
