REVIEW: Hostel Sendero de Volcanes, Latacunga

If you are thinking about hiking the Quilotoa Loop or visiting Cotopaxi this hostel is a good base. It’s a little out of Latacunga itself but it’s cheap and clean and the family are friendly and helpful.

Hospitality: 9/10 While we were here they had 2 Argentinian volunteers working for them who were lovely. They were really happy working there and our personal experiences with the family who ran the place were positive.

Room: 8/10 We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom. It was basic but clean, it had lots of natural light and a TV. The bathroom was right outside the bedroom door, always clean with a good shower and we never had to wait to use it.

Location: 7/10 This place is situated near the airport and is about a 15 minute walk to the bus station or the town centre. This was fine for us as we don’t mind walking with our packs, but there is also the option of a $2 taxi if you really don’t have the energy.

Value: 9/10 We paid $20usd per night for a double plus an extra $2.50usd each for breakfast (egg, bread, fruit, coffee and juice). There was also a well equipped kitchen and supermarkets nearby to help save a couple of extra pennies! The wifi was good and they let us store our bags here for free while we hiked the loop.

Overall: 9/10 We enjoyed our time here, there is a nice cafe/bar on the top floor which we heard serve good food, as well as a roof terrace with a view of the volcanoes (pictured above). I would recommend a couple of nights here for sure!
